Self Audit

A self audit is absolutely necessary once in a while and certainly at least once a year. So what is a self audit? A standard audit falls under the following definition "an official inspection of an individual's or organization's accounts, typically by an independent body." The reality of a "Self Audit" is not far off from a standard one however you are your own independent body and the accounts you're inspecting are the different aspects of your life.


What are the accounts of life?

The International Self Care Foundation categorizes self care into 7 pillars and they are as follows:

1. Knowledge and health literacy

2. Mental wellbeing, self-awareness and agency

3. Physical activity

4. Healthy Eating

5. Risk avoidance or mitigation

6. Good hygiene

7. Rational and responsible use of products or services.

Each and everyone of these pillars is an account and each one of these accounts is to be taken into consideration during your self audit. Let's take a deep dive into each one of these pillars and see what resources we can use to help us on our journey to whole person wellness.


1. Knowledge and health literacy

Thanks to the internet we can now learn just about everything about anything. It's an incredible tool. There are tons of blogs, articles, apps, websites, youtube channels all about self-care that at times it can be hard to cut through the grass and find the solution you're looking for. 2. Mental Wellbeing, Self-Awareness and Agency

In my opinion this is one of the most important and consequently most difficult pillars to conquer. The important thing to remember about this pillar and really all the pillars is nothing works unless you do. Self-Awareness and Mental Wellbeing are a journey that is not all crystals and ginger tea (although these things may help.) Self-awareness forces us to bring to light those things which have kept us in the dark for so long.

3. Physical Activity

The connection between the mind and the body is well documented. There are many ways in which your mind effects your ability to physically function and in-turn your physical activity determines many factors when it comes to your mentality. From decreased stress and anxiety to a better sleep ensuring that you have at least 30 minutes of physical activity is essentials for whole person wellness. 4. Health Eating

Like the connection between the mind and the body the vagus nerves it what connects the mind and the gut. Your gut is a microbiome filled with healthy and unhealthy bacteria. Your diet determines your bodies energy levels and can even effect chemical balances in your brain. Sometimes it's not about how much you eat its about what you eat.

5. Risk Avoidance and Mitigation

We have all heard of risk and reward at a certain point in our lives. The important question we have to ask ourselves is how often is the risk worth the reward? How sustainable and what is the longevity of the rewards we feel? Knowing whats good and whats bad for you is an invaluable skill and sign of maturity. Be careful however the mind can play tricks on itself.

6. Good Hygiene

I shouldn't even have to go into this one, wear deodorant, wash your face, wash your hands, shower often, moisturize and wash ya ass.


No resources buy some soap (just make sure its vegan and cruelty free :))


7. Rational and responsible use of products or services.

This goes for any and every single form of consumption we have. Too much of anything isn't always a good thing. Addiction can manifest itself in a lot of ways some subtle and some completely take your life over. It's important to recognize what it is you consume and at what levels. We have so much sensory input these days if you do not take stock of your consumption it can consume you
